A major tragedy struck Ahmedabad on Sunday morning when a small passenger aircraft belonging to a private aviation company crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The incident occurred around 9:15 a.m., sending shockwaves across the city.
According to airport officials, the aircraft developed a technical malfunction within minutes of departure. Despite the pilot’s attempt to return to the runway, the plane lost control and crashed into an open field near Kathwada. Immediately after impact, the aircraft caught fire, making rescue operations challenging.
Fire brigade teams, airport security personnel, and local police rushed to the spot and managed to control the blaze after a strenuous effort. Preliminary reports confirm multiple casualties, though the exact number of victims is yet to be officially released. Several injured passengers have been shifted to Civil Hospital, where they are receiving critical care.
The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the crash. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by thick smoke rising from the crash site.
Chief Minister of Gujarat expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured full support to the families of the victims. Authorities have also set up a helpline to assist relatives seeking information.
The tragic crash has once again raised questions about aviation safety and the maintenance of private aircraft in the country.
